I admire Muhammad Ali for the principled stand he took for the humanity of Black people across the globe. He stood against US imperialism, colonization and war. He refused military service and was stripped of his money, fame and accomplishments. Today’s athletes who are taking this stand are the true champions of Ali’s legacy.
How fortunate we are as a society to have men and women who are unwilling to live in silence. We worship the physical prowess of sports professionals. But in reality the stands they are taking now in defense of Black lives is by far their greatest moment.
On and off the field.
